As Rajendra Dawadi made sure the children and staff got to safety on a hill, he saw the waters rising behind him. The school, where he himself had been a student as a child, disappeared under the mud.
When Dawadi returned to the site where the school once stood, he was hailed as a hero by the parents of the children he had brought to safety.
"The parents hugged me, they cried with me. They were emotional," says Dawadi.
But he believes it was not a heroic effort, only that the children's safety was his responsibility.
