Princess Sofia is now speaking out about her contacts with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Her account concerns a restaurant visit and a movie screening. She says that was all.

Princess Sofia is one of several Swedes mentioned in the various Epstein documents released in recent months.

"I met him in a couple of social settings. But now that I've read about all the horrific crimes he's subjected young women to, I'm so grateful I haven't had anything to do with him since the few times in my 20s," she says.

My thoughts really go out to all the victims of crime and I hope there is justice in this.

Two occasions

The court has previously confirmed that Princess Sofia met Epstein in social contexts, but said the two have had no contact for the past 20 years.

In connection with an event in Stockholm on Tuesday, she said it was only on two occasions.

"We met at a restaurant in a social context where I was introduced and at a film screening with many others. Thankfully, that was all," she says.

Famous names

A long list of famous names - including royalty and politicians - appears in the millions of documents released about Jeffrey Epstein, including Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who, according to the documents, had extensive contact with him.

Mette-Marit recently apologized for her friendship with Epstein.

"It is important for me to say sorry to everyone I have let down. Some of the content of the messages between Epstein and me do not represent the person I wish to be," she said in a statement published on the Norwegian royal family's website.

American businessman Jeffrey Epstein was investigated in 2005 for sex crimes against an underage girl and was sentenced to prison in 2008 for purchasing sex.

Ten years later, the case was brought to light by the Miami Herald, where several women came forward in a series of articles accusing Epstein of sexual assault.

He was arrested in early July 2019 and charged with assaulting dozens of underage girls between 2002 and 2005.

On August 10, 2019, he was found lifeless in his cell in the Manhattan jail. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. He is believed to have taken his own life, but this is disputed.
