Princess Madeleine will step in as temporary head of state instead of King Carl XVI Gustaf from Friday and for a week ahead.
The reason is that the king, together with Queen Silvia, will go on a planned private trip to Brazil. Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Carl Philip with their families will also join the autumn holiday trip. When the king, Sweden's head of state, is outside Europe, a temporary head of state automatically takes over according to the order of succession.
If a serious event were to occur, there is a plan in place for the king to be able to return very, very quickly to Sweden, says the court's information manager Margareta Thorgren.
From November 2 to November 8, Crown Princess Victoria will be the temporary head of state since she will then be back in Sweden from Brazil. After that, the royal couple will return home.
