The palace gates were opened to the public at 10 am on the National Day
Prince Carl Philip, Princess Sofia and the latest addition Princess Ines opened the National Day celebration in the castle courtyard in Stockholm, while the King and Queen celebrated in Småland's Nybro.
The Royal Palaces are an important part of our cultural heritage. That's why it's a pleasure to welcome you into these unique environments filled with history, art and stories, said Prince Carl Philip.
The Crown Princess couple participated in a celebration in Hagaparken, where Victoria held a speech.
For me, the National Day is one of the finest holidays of the year. It's a day to feel pride and joy over Sweden. A day to feel gratitude for everything we have. And it's a day that we celebrate together throughout our country.
She continued:
In a world of conflicts and rapid changes, the word together gets an even more important meaning.
The King and Queen ended the celebration by returning to the capital in the evening and joining the rest of the family. Together, they then drove in a cortege through Stockholm to the celebration at Skansen.
There, the rain poured down during the evening, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (The Moderate Party) held a speech and so did the King. Mr Chris O'Neill was the first to put on a rain poncho but soon all members of the royal family were seen trying to protect themselves from the rain under the thin blue plastic.
