The dress, designed by Christina Stambolian, was worn by Princess Diana in 1994, the same day King Charles officially admitted to having been unfaithful. The dress quickly became known as “the revenge dress.”
The dress will be auctioned by Sotheby's in December. When Diana herself donated it to a charity auction in 1997, it sold for £39,098. Now the price is expected to be much higher.
"It occupies a unique place in fashion history because it represents one of the extremely rare occasions when a garment has transcended fashion and become part of cultural history," Morgane Halimi, head of Sotheby's global fashion department, told The Guardian .
