The result, which is not yet clear, shows continued pro-EU and pro-Ukrainian policies. At the same time, one of the United List's coalition partners looks set to miss the threshold.

"Nothing is clear, but this result for us is higher than expected," Kulbergs said, according to AFP.

The public service company LSM writes that six parties on Saturday evening appear to have cleared the barrier, including the right-wing populist Latvia First and a pro-Russian party, both of which, according to a polling station survey, could receive over 10 percent of the vote.

47-year-old Kulbergs, who became prime minister as recently as May this year, may have to sit in on lengthy government discussions, as he ruled out cooperation with those parties on election night.

Only 51 percent of those eligible to vote cast their votes, according to LSM.
