Sandoz, the company behind the hormone patch Estradot, has warned that the shortage situation could worsen and has now been given the OK to charge higher prices, reports Dagens Medicin.
The TLV agency, which made the decision, says that otherwise the drug risks disappearing from the Swedish market.
In its request for a price increase, Sandoz cites a sharp increase in global demand that could affect supply for years to come. The company warns of even greater shortages if prices are not increased.
The price increase will take effect on July 1 and will be between 55% and 60% for the strengths of 50, 75 and 100 micrograms per 24 hours.
