Embaló was arrested shortly after a military coup in his home country, and then fled to neighboring Senegal. He then flew across the African continent to Congo-Brazzaville.
Embaló arrived in Brazzaville late this morning on a private plane, a source close to the Congolese government told AFP.
On the same day, the military junta in Guinea-Bissau has formed a new government. A few days ago, the junta took power through a military coup, shortly after presidential and parliamentary elections were held in the country.
The motives for the coup are unclear. According to the opposition and some experts, the ex-president may have been behind the takeover to stop the electoral process in the country.
Suspicions are growing after the junta appointed military chief of staff Horta N'Tam, considered a close ally of the ex-president, as head of a transitional government to lead the country for one year.
There have previously been four coups d'état in Guinea-Bissau since the country gained independence from Portugal in 1974.
