Decreased birth rates result in more than half of the country's municipalities are forced to close entire or parts of preschools over the next five years, reports Sveriges Radio P4 Örebro.
A survey conducted by the channel was answered by 220 of the country's 290 municipalities. Of the respondents, 185 stated that they already have or will close preschools or preschool departments over the next five years.
In many cases, the closures lead to employees having to be laid off. Of the 220 responding municipalities, 144 state that personnel in childcare have already been or may be impacted.
