At least eight children have had their mouths taped in a preschool class in Gothenburg, reports P4 Gothenburg.
The taping – which is said to have taken place during December and January – was used by a teacher as punishment for noise and chatter. The story was revealed in February and the teacher was suspended while several parallel investigations were launched.
At a parent meeting with the school management, it also emerged that the taping was witnessed by another staff member on one occasion – who, however, did not sound the alarm.
It is, of course, serious. If there are shortcomings in how it was reported, it needs to be highlighted, says Petra Last, deputy education chief at the elementary school administration, to P4.
According to the school, the teacher has admitted to the actions.
