Taylor has officiated in the Premier League since 2010 and has been trusted with several major tournaments. During this summer's World Cup, he officiated several matches, most recently when Spain defeated Portugal in the round of 16.

Now Anthony Taylor says he is ending his career and raises concerns about refereeing at the elite level.

"Refereeing at the highest level has been an honour, but the pressure has become greater and security has declined," the Englishman said in a statement.

Taylor officiated the 2023 Europa League final between Roma and Sevilla. Coach José Mourinho, then at Roma, waited for the 47-year-old in the car park and called Taylor's performance a disaster after Roma lost the match.

Roma supporters also confronted Taylor, who was with his family, at the airport.
