Premier League players Tolu Arokodare and Romaine Mundle were subjected to racist abuse online after Sunday's league matches, and their clubs, Wolverhampton and Sunderland, have hit back with strong condemnations.

"We condemn this despicable and illegal behavior in the strongest possible terms," Wolverhampton wrote in a statement.

"There is no place for racism in our society and we stand behind Romaine, who has our full support," Sunderland wrote.

On Saturday, Wesley Fofana (Chelsea) and Hannibal Mejbri (Burnley) were subjected to similar attacks after a league match, which were also strongly condemned by the players' clubs.

On Monday, British police announced that they were investigating "disgusting" racist attacks against the quartet.
