The entire capital of Greenland, Nuuk, was without power on Saturday evening, according to the national energy company Nukissiorfiit.

The problems were caused by strong winds that led to a transmission failure. The energy company has been working to restore supply via a backup power plant.

Three hours after the problems began, some areas of the city had power restored.

Nuuk has approximately 20,000 inhabitants.
