The English football club announced the news on its website on Thursday morning, less than 24 hours after the Spaniard Julen Lopetegui was sacked.
For Graham Potter, the new assignment is his first job since he was sacked as coach in Chelsea in April 2023.
"I'm really happy to be here. It was important for me to wait until a job came up that felt right for me, at the same time as I was the right person for the club in question. That's the feeling I have with West Ham United", says Graham Potter to West Ham's website.
Potter made his breakthrough as a coach in Sweden and Östersunds FK, which he led all the way from Division 2 to the Allsvenskan, victory in the Swedish Cup and a playoff spot in the European League.
After his time in Sweden, Potter has coached Swansea, Brighton and Chelsea.
The contract with West Ham extends until the summer of 2027.
