Parcel volumes increased and letter volumes decreased for the Swedish-Danish mail and parcel deliverer Postnord in the third quarter. But the profit rose sharply.

The operating result increased by 23 percent to 106 million kronor, while net sales fell to 8.5 billion kronor, down 1 percent year-on-year.

Parcel volumes increased by 18 percent, while letter volumes fell by 12 percent.

Postnord Denmark will stop delivering letters in 2026, after letter volumes in the country have plummeted by more than 90 percent over 25 years.

At the same time, the government in Sweden has proposed that the deadline for Postnord to deliver letters be extended by one day.

"The consultation period ended on October 15 and we are now awaiting the government's decision," Postnord writes in a press release.
