Thousands of Portlanders demonstrated outside an ICE facility on Saturday. According to local media, the protest was peaceful, and several children were among those reportedly attacked with tear gas, pepper spray and rubber bullets.
“To those who continue to work for ICE: Resign. To those who control the building: Leave,” Mayor Keith Wilson wrote after the incident, continuing: “Through your use of force and trampling on the Constitution, you have lost all legitimacy and replaced it with shame.”
The demonstration was one of many in the United States over the weekend against ICE and Border Patrol's pursuit of migrants.
In early January, two people were shot and injured in Portland by Border Patrol.
