The operating margin - a measure of profitability - rose to 6.9 percent in the quarter. In the third quarter of last year, the same margin was almost zero.

During the first nine months of the year, Porsche's delivery volume fell by 16 percent to 178,532 cars. But special orders and increased demand for the 911 sports car pushed up margins. Operating profit for the period was 1.7 billion euros.

Porsche - a listed part of the German Volkswagen empire - confirmed its full-year forecast in the report, with an operating margin estimated at 5.5–7.5 percent and revenue projected at 35–36 billion euros.
