Nils Eklund had a long and varied acting career. He appeared in popular television productions such as "Göta kanal" and in the early 1980s in "Swedish Sesame Street," where he played the character Pom-Pom.
In his youth, Nils Eklund was involved with the city theatres of Helsingborg and Malmö, among others. He was a member of the permanent ensemble at the Royal Dramatic Theatre until his retirement and was awarded the Litteris et Artibus medal for "outstanding artistic contributions" in 2010.
"I've never had the chance to do any of the big roles like King Lear or Hamlet. That's why it was incredibly fun," he said in an interview at the time.
Nils Eklund was delighted when children recognized his voice and asked if he was Pettson. His voice for the early "Pettson and Findus" books was one of his many work assignments as a narrator.
Nils Eklund stood on stage one last time in Lars Norén's "Andante" at the Dramaten Theatre at the age of 92. He was alert until a few weeks before he died and fell asleep with those closest to him.
Nils Eklund was 99.
