Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Pope Leo XIV in Italy on Tuesday morning.

The Vatican said in a press release that the Pope "once again stressed the importance of continuing dialogue and expressed his urgent desire that the current diplomatic initiatives lead to a just and lasting peace."

Zelensky is on a sort of tour of Europe to negotiate and rally support in light of the US's earlier draft peace agreement, which has been criticized for being close to the Russian line. On Monday, he met with the leaders of Germany, France and Britain, as well as the NATO chief and the president of the European Commission.

He will also meet with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during his visit to Rome.
