When designer Katie Perry registered her trademark in 2008, she had not heard of the pop star with a similar name, according to the court. Just a few months earlier, pop star Katy Perry had released her debut single "I Kissed a Girl."
The singer's trademark "Katy Perry" was registered in Australia in 2011. However, the legal battle began in 2009 when the singer filed a complaint against the Australian designer.
