During the 160-kilometre swim, which started on Friday, the freestyle swimmer suffered hallucinations several times. Add to that high waves, cold and wind. But despite the extreme conditions, Bartlomiej Kubkowski managed to make it ashore in Dziwnów, Poland, on Sunday evening - to the cheers of the crowd.
Completely exhausted, the 31-year-old stumbled ashore without receiving help from anyone, as required by the rules, Polish Radio reports.
During his long journey - his fifth attempt in a row - across the Baltic Sea, the ultra swimmer received food and drink from a companion boat, which he was never allowed to hold on to or even touch, writes German news agency dpa.
