The Northern Territory has been hit by heavy rain over the weekend, forcing more than a thousand people to evacuate their homes, with the town of Katherine experiencing its worst flooding since the late 1990s.
The rainfall has also had other consequences. Police are strongly advising the public not to go swimming, not only because of strong currents but also because of what lurks beneath the surface:
"There are crocodiles everywhere. Don't jump in the water," police officer Shaun Gill told reporters.
Over 100,000 freshwater and saltwater crocodiles are believed to live in the northern parts of Australia.
