A man in his 60s died after a collision between a bus and a car near Varberg. A man in his 60s died in a traffic accident in Mellerud Municipality, and a woman in her 60s died in Tjörn.

It's not below freezing yet, but several of our patrols are reporting this evening that the roads are slippery here in the western region, says police spokesperson Johan Håkansson.

This is not to say that slippery roads were a factor in the serious accidents we have unfortunately had this afternoon, but it is a reminder of how quickly things can go wrong in traffic. With that in mind, there is every reason to take it easy on the roads.

Risk of black ice

The Swedish Transport Administration already issued a warning on Friday that there is a risk of black ice in western Sweden.

"Black ice, also called flash ice, is very treacherous because it is usually not visible, but makes the road extremely slippery. It often forms when the road surface is cold and damp and temperatures are around zero degrees. Roads usually become slippery late in the evening or early in the morning when the temperature drops," the Swedish Transport Administration writes on its website.

Particularly vulnerable areas are bridges, viaducts, areas near waterways and shady areas beside the road.

Skåne also affected by the accident

During the day, there have also been two fatal traffic accidents in Skåne. A man in his 70s died after an accident on the E6 north of Ängelholm, and a woman in her 20s died after a collision with a truck outside Åstorp in northwestern Skåne.
