Thousands of students, university employees and activists gathered outside the parliament in Buenos Aires on Thursday to protest President Javier Milei’s cuts to the higher education budget.

The main part of the demonstration remained calm, but the situation reportedly deteriorated when dozens of people broke away from the crowd and threw stones at police. The police responded with tear gas, water cannons and rubber bullets.

The clashes lasted about an hour, according to AFP. At least 25 people have been arrested in connection with the protests, and eight police officers have reportedly been injured.
