There is a relationship, a connection between the suspect and the victim, local police chief Erik Åberg tells Sydsvenskan.
A woman in her 50s was stabbed in Bellevuegården in Malmö on Wednesday morning. A man in his 50s was arrested shortly afterwards and later taken into custody.
The woman was taken to hospital, but her life could not be saved.
The police are working to establish a motive for the attack. However, they have rejected earlier media reports that the attack was random.
At the same time, work is underway to increase security in the area and “engage with and meet the public after what has happened,” according to Erik Åberg.
Correction: An earlier version gave the wrong time.
