A person has been arrested after a major police operation in Gothenburg where a dangerous object was found just after 7 pm.
The police cordoned off a larger area in Vasastan in central Gothenburg during the evening and the National Bomb Protection was called to the scene. At 10:20 pm, the police announced on their website that the object was deemed live and had been handled by the bomb squad.
A smaller cordon remains in place pending a technical investigation, but there is no longer any danger to the public, says the police's press spokesperson Fredrik Svedemyr to Göteborgs-Posten.
According to the police, the initial crime classification was attempted general destruction and crime against the law on flammable and explosive goods.
According to GP, residents in the area are said to have been accommodated. There are no reports of personal injuries or material damage.
