A man has been arrested after barricading himself for several hours in the parliament building in Canada's capital Ottawa on Saturday.

A large police operation was launched at 3 pm local time after the man barricaded himself in the eastern parts of the building. An internal security message was sent out to all who work in the building to seek shelter in the nearest room and lock all doors, and the Ottawa police urged people to avoid the area.

But by 10:30 pm on Saturday evening, the drama was over. The police write on X that a man has been arrested. It is unclear why he barricaded himself in parliament. No one was injured.
