Police Raid Cargo Ship Off Gotland Amid Reported Russia Links

Police carried out a raid on a cargo ship off Gotland overnight, TV4 reports. The ship’s shipping company has previously been investigated in connection with Russian hybrid attacks, according to information provided to the channel.

We carried out a border check on a ship in a port on Gotland. This is a routine operation. Travel documents were checked and found to be in order, police press spokesperson Carina Skagerlind tells TT.

The ship was reportedly off the northwestern coast of Gotland when police carried out the operation. According to TV4, the National Task Force took part in the raid.

The border police are responsible for this area, and they are the ones who have worked here, Skagerlind says in response to a question about whether the National Task Force took part.

According to the TV channel, the ship belongs to a shipping company that has previously been the subject of an investigation into Russian hybrid and reconnaissance operations. TV4 also reports that the crew consists of Russian citizens.

I will not comment on nationality, says Carina Skagerlind.

The ship is reportedly an over-80-metre-long dry cargo vessel.
