Most of the injured are described by the police as young adults, but among them are also people under 18 years old. They are both boys and girls, men and women. All of them come from Gävle or neighboring municipalities.
The persons were shot in the lower body, according to the police. No one has life-threatening injuries.
Four are still in the hospital and two have been able to go home, says deputy local police chief Josefine Rhodin at a press conference.
None of the injured are currently suspected of any crime. The police have been able to talk to the injured and hear them about what happened.
Too early for motive
The suspected boy has been questioned during the day. What has emerged from this, the police do not want to comment on.
We cannot go into the motive, but we have a relatively good understanding of what happened, says Karin Wessén, head of the investigative section at the police at the press conference.
The police also do not want to comment on whether the suspect is known from before, or what type of weapon was used.
The police have received reinforcements from the entire region. There is great cooperation with social services, which have taken over the responsibility regarding the suspect. One cannot give any answer to whether there are links to gang crime.
Whether those who were hit by the shots were intended targets or not, the police do not want to comment on.
On central street
The incident is being investigated as attempted murder and serious weapons offense. The 13-year-old is suspected of six attempted murders.
I cannot go into more detail on how the arrest was made, but he was arrested in close proximity to the crime scene, says Wessén.
The alarm came just before 2 am on Saturday. The shooting took place on a street in central Gävle with shops and restaurants, and several injured sought shelter at a pub nearby.
The police have been working on creating security and preventing crime in Gävle since the incident. This is done, among other things, through increased presence and dialogue with citizens. The police will also have increased presence in central Gävle on Saturday evening.
At the same time, the investigation continues with collecting and compiling information, and urges the public to contact them with observations about the incident.
– Of course, one is surprised when there are so many injured, says Wessén, but adds that the development of violence is something that has happened in society lately.
