A police officer was shot to death during an operation against a perpetrator who opened fire at a hospital in York in the American state of Pennsylvania on Saturday.
The perpetrator had a pistol and handcuffs with him when he entered the intensive care unit at UPMC hospital. There, he took employees hostage before being shot dead by the police, according to the authorities.
In the shootout, one police officer was killed and two others were injured, according to District Attorney Tim Barker. Three hospital employees, a doctor, a nurse, and a security guard, were also injured in the exchange of fire.
It is absolutely clear and beyond all reasonable doubt that the police were justified in using deadly force, said Barker at a press conference.
