The man was charged three weeks ago and has been linked to a paedophile network.
According to the indictment, the man raped boys aged between 13 and 15 and also performed sexual acts with animals. He also had access to 1,500 child pornography files.
The man held a managerial role and worked on child pornography cases, among other things.
The police officer’s superiors are said to have known that he was a suspect in the crimes. Police spokesperson Ola Österling told DN that the man was allowed to continue working because the initial suspicions involved child pornography and he had denied the offence.
The man was relieved of his duties in March after suspicions against him grew.
