A police officer in Alingsås used the opportunity to buy a work of art from a man during a detention, Alingsås Tidning reports. The man was drunk at the time and about to be detained under the LVM (the Act on the Care of Drug Abusers).

According to the police report, the man had been troublesome during previous interventions, and one of the police officers had asked to see the man's paintings in an attempt to calm the situation.

They agreed that the police would be allowed to buy one of the works for a thousand kronor, and the police patrol then took a detour to withdraw cash from an ATM.

Police Region West assesses that the officer did not prioritize police work and that the detention lasted longer than normal. The case is being submitted to the Personnel Responsibility Board, and salary deductions may be considered, but no crime is assessed to have been committed.
