As of December 14, there had been 143 shootings this year, with 43 fatalities, according to SVT statistics. This is a significant decrease compared to the peak levels in the early 20th century. In 2022, there were 390 shootings, with 62 fatalities.
The change is even clearer in Stockholm County. There, the number of victims of fatal shootings has fallen from 27 to 11, during the same period. The number of shootings decreased from 119 to 65.
We have prosecuted several and arrested many of the instigators abroad and that affects the figures, says Deputy Regional Police Chief Tobias Bergkvist in Stockholm County.
