Of the 93 people with valid driver's licenses who were convicted of drunk driving in district court, the police failed to take the driver's licenses of 10, even though they showed clear signs of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the check.
It seems to occur to a greater extent than we knew, Åsa Bergqvist of the Swedish Transport Agency tells Corren.
The result is that the Swedish Transport Agency does not find out about the crime until the verdict is handed down. And that can take months, in some cases up to a year, according to the newspaper.
In the meantime, people can continue driving - completely legally.
