Live Hand Grenade Found in Västerås Apartment Disarmed by Police

A live hand grenade has been found in an apartment in Västerås, the police report. The National Bomb Protection Unit has been at the scene.

They have examined this object and come to the conclusion that it is a live hand grenade. They have disarmed it on site, taken it into custody, says Joar Källman, commander at the police command center.

The hand grenade is believed to have been thrown into the apartment through a window.

It was during the night towards Monday that the police were alerted about a suspected dangerous object in Västerås. Residents were urged to stay indoors.

One is still present at the scene with police officers and one will conduct a crime scene investigation.

The police are going door-to-door and examining video surveillance. The incident is being investigated as an attempt at general destruction and serious offense against the law on fire-hazardous and explosive goods.
