The police have launched a national operation against online phishing scams, so-called vishing, reports Swedish Radio Ekot.

Vishing scams are about trying to deceive people into transferring money via phone calls or sms.

The purpose of the operation, which is led by Noa and the police regions, is to get to the people who are at the top of the chain and organize the scams. The scammers are estimated to earn between 25 and 30 million per week from the scams and exceed the income from drug trafficking, according to the police.

These actors are skilled. They can be good at technology, at moving large crime profits, at building solutions for call center operations and so on, says Karin Bredig at the police to the radio.
