The police in western Fyrbodal wrote about the death on their Facebook page, but did not provide further details about how the dog was injured.
"Police dogs are incredibly valuable to us as they can be crucial in cases where it is important to quickly find people in need. Ymer was no exception, and leaves a big void behind him."
The search operation continued on Sunday. The missing man was later found dead. Police do not suspect any foul play.
