This year's police dog is named Ivan and has full focus on narcotics, weapons and banknotes. On the list of merits is the find of 93 kilos of narcotics and having prevented a planned murder.

During an outdoor search in connection with a house search, Ivan made his way under debris and tarpaulins and found weapons, communication equipment and disguises.

Since 2023, he has been in service within the police in the Southern region, based in Kalmar. He is three years old and of the breed German hunting terrier.

His handler Fredrik Lindqvist tells in a press release that some persuasion was required to get through a purchase of a police dog of this breed. But it turned out well – Ivan has the notorious stubbornness that characterizes a terrier.

"I wanted a dog with a natural instinct to search and that never gives up. That searches because the search itself is fun", says Fredrik Lindqvist.
