"These are very large quantities. And that this has happened in a short time. That is something that is an anomaly," Alexander Wallenius of the police's national operations center tells Ekot.
One hundred grenades were seized at one time in western Sweden recently. In Stockholm, just over 50 grenades were seized, and in Skåne around 25. Grenades have also been found elsewhere.
"Our assessment is that these are hand grenades that have been brought to Sweden. Exactly how the smuggling took place and who might be involved are issues that the investigations will, of course, look into," Wallenius says.
