During 2024, the center received 111,978 questions, of which 104,427 concerned poisoning or intoxication in humans, according to a press release from the advisory service.

This corresponds to an increase of 3.7 percent from the previous year. 6,731 of the questions were of a general and preventive nature.

Between May and October, the number of calls increased, which is attributed to more people coming into contact with fungi, wasps, berries, and adders during this period. However, the difference between summer and winter has decreased, as a very high proportion of the questions concern chemicals, medicines, and drugs of abuse.

The most common question for children under ten years old concerned ingesting cleaning products.

"For young people in the age group 10-19 years, more than half of the questions concerned self-destructive actions such as overdosing on medicines. Unfortunately, we see roughly the same trend for adults, where it primarily concerns self-destructive actions or abuse," says Johanna Nordmark Grass, medically responsible at the Poison Information Center, in the press release.
