It was a win in the first match for the USA's new national team captain Mauricio Pochettino. The star coach saw his team beat Panama 2–0 in a friendly match in Austin.

Yunus Musah gave the Americans the lead in the 49th minute and Ricardo Pepi sealed the match with a goal in stoppage time.

Pochettino, who was appointed last month, has previously coached among others Tottenham, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain. The high-profile coach has been recruited as a replacement for former Hammarby coach Gregg Berhalter, whose time as national team captain ended prematurely after the USA's fiasco in the Copa America last summer.

Pochettino's mission is to take the American national team far in the World Championship 2026, which the USA is hosting together with Canada and Mexico.
