The manufacturer Sony is announcing the price increase on its Playstation blog and writes that the increase is motivated by inflation and a "challenging economic environment".
According to Bloomberg's analysts, the price increase can be linked to the fact that game consoles are expected to become approximately 30 percent more expensive in the USA following Donald Trump's announcement of increased import tariffs. Such a price increase also results in a changed pricing globally, according to Bloomberg.
As of Monday, a Playstation 5 will cost 500 euros in Europe, equivalent to 5,500 Swedish kronor.
Sony's competitor on the game market, Nintendo, recently postponed pre-orders for its upcoming console Switch 2 in the USA. This is due to the Donald Trump-led government's comprehensive punitive tariffs.
