Woods crashed his car just under two weeks ago and is suspected of having been under the influence of painkillers while behind the wheel.
Player notes it was a mistake and at the same time sympathises with Woods.
"My thoughts are with him. I can't imagine anything worse than living with pain every day. I just hope he gets it all sorted out, because he is such a great asset to golf and has done so much for the sport," says the energetic South African for his age.
Along with Jack Nicklaus, 86, and Tom Watson, 76, Gary Player traditionally opened the Masters by hitting their respective tee shots from the first tee at Augusta National.
