Johnson was part of the so-called “Wrecking Crew,” the group of musicians who topped the wish list of many Hollywood producers. Johnson recorded several songs with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Nat “King” Cole and Ella Fitzgerald.

In 1963, the film “The Pink Panther” was released, featuring Johnson playing the saxophone intro, which was nominated for an Oscar. According to Johnson himself, only two takes were needed for the iconic melody.
