Bernhardsson will not coach Piteå in the final two matches of the Damallsvenskan season, but will remain an employee of the club.
“It is a difficult decision, but the assessment is that a change is needed to give the team the best possible conditions at the end of the season,” sports director James Burgin says in a statement on Piteå’s website.
Leif Strandh and Zohair Tehini will lead the team alongside Burgin for the remainder of the season.
Piteå are three points behind IFK Norrköping, who occupy the relegation play-off place.
Bernhardsson is the fifth coach in the Damallsvenskan to leave his post during the season.
