A slow final required more of Samuel Pihlström at the World Championship in Tokyo. Then the 1,500-meter runner was not enough. Right now it feels empty, says the Swede who finished eleventh.

Isaac Nader from Portugal won before Great Britain's Jake Wightman and Kenya's Reynold Cheruiyot.

A trio that Samuel Pihlström has beaten during the season.

Such a race can anyone win. It's a bit sad, he says.

The 24-year-old had a good position with two laps left of the final at the National Arena in a hot and humid Tokyo. Then Pihlström lost pace and in the end it was over to get any placement that he both aimed for and dreamed of.

I'm not quite there to be able to defend the position. I let people pass on both the inside and the outside, and suddenly I'm last in the cluster. Then it's hard to move forward.

When it's going slow it's a position game but I wasn't quite determined.
