Samuel Pihlström is ready for the final on 1,500 meters in the World Championship in athletics in Tokyo. But it was by a hair's breadth. It was not obvious, he says.

Pihlström took the sixth and last final spot from his semifinal, at a time of 3.35,71. A hundredth behind him was the Norwegian star Narve Gilje Nordås, who thus missed the final.

The final is nothing I take for granted, at the same time it was the goal, says the Swede.

There he also commented on the replay images of the thrilling finish:

I am proud of how I performed the race, it was completely according to plan. I positioned myself well behind (Josh) Kerr and let Timothy (Cheruiyot) in a bit so it got a bit nervous at the end.

I glanced to the right and saw Narve and threw myself forward. I felt that I was a little ahead but it was not obvious – it was nice to get it confirmed.

The World Championship final will be decided on Wednesday.
