On Friday, Pia Sundhage's Switzerland will face Spain in a historically significant quarter-final for the nation. Just three days before the match, the country was forced to cancel its training on Tuesday morning due to illnesses in the squad, reports Swiss Blick.
According to the newspaper, several players have experienced cold symptoms in recent days. Therefore, the national team staff decided to postpone the planned training until Wednesday.
Instead, the players will now get a day off to recover. Defender Julia Stierli and midfielder Coumba Sow are two of the players who have shown symptoms of illness and both abstained from training on Sunday.
Switzerland has never before reached the quarter-finals in the European Championship.
