Evgenij Malkin gave Pittsburgh hope of avoiding having a knife to their throats for the rest of the series. The Russian scored a goal for the visitors four minutes into the game.

Then came the game-changer. A huge brawl broke out that resulted in all ten skaters being ejected. Pittsburgh's Bryan Rust was given two two-minute penalties, and on the ensuing power play, Trevor Zegras equalized for the home team.

Philadelphia continued to score, and despite Erik Karlsson's consolation goal midway through the third period, Pittsburgh lost 2–5.

The series is now 3–0, which Philadelphia can decide on Sunday night.

Corrected: A previous version gave the wrong number of players sent off.
