In Philadelphia's 3–2 home win, Russian Matvej Mitchkov and American Trevor Zegras each scored a goal in the second period. However, after two more scoreless periods, the game had to be decided in a shootout.

After three straight misses, it was Canadian Tyson Foerster who finally scored the decisive shootout goal that sent the team into the Stanley Cup playoffs, while Carolina did not score a single one.

Among the now playoff-ready players in Philadelphia are Swedes Carl Grundström, Emil Andrae, Samuel Ersson and Adam Ginning.

The team will face Pittsburgh, featuring Rickard Rakell, Elmer Söderblom, Filip Hållander and Erik Karlsson, among others, in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs in the Eastern Conference.

Philadelphia's victory also means that Washington, led by Alexander Ovechkin, misses the playoffs.
